Often times, Officers about year three or four may face a turning point. It seems that about this time, the job stops feeling new and without even noticing it Officers will start to lose that new hire enthusiasm.

Corrections Officers are trained to be tough by necessity, by year three it is engrained. When you start looking at the things that brought you to this line of work: a purpose and a desire to make a difference can be replaced by cynicism and burnout after enough exposure to a negative environment.

However, this is the time to dig down and remember what brought you here and what kind of Officer you want to be.
