Resiliency does not stop when the shift ends – a page dedicated to Correctional Staff Wellness

It’s easy to get pulled into the negativity online. Social media loves outrage, and if you spend enough time scrolling, you’d think this job is nothing but stress, conflict, and frustration. But anyone who’s worn the uniform knows that’s not the full story.

Corrections has moments of brotherhood that most people will never experience. Moments where someone steps in without being asked. Moments where a partner reads your body language before you say a word. Moments where you walk into a tough situation and know, without a doubt, that the person next to you has your six.

That kind of trust is rare. It’s earned in the quiet, unglamorous parts of the job: the late-night conversations, the shared exhaustion, the dark humor that gets you through a long shift, the unspoken understanding that “we take care of our own”.

So when the online world gets angry, or cynical, take a breath. Step back. Remember what’s real.

The loudest voices aren’t always the truest ones. The people who stand beside you every day, that’s the real story of this profession.

Let’s keep choosing to highlight the good. Let’s keep building each other up. And let’s not let the negativity drown out the brotherhood that makes this job worth doing.
